It is super easy to make and it worked like a charm. I included links to the ingredients online so you can see what they look like. Both borax and washing soda are easily found in most grocery and home improvement stores. I have also read that you can exchange the washing soda with baking soda, which would make this even cheaper to make.
Dishwasher Detergent
Ingredients:
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
White vinegar
Directions:
- Mix together the borax and washing soda and store in a plastic container with a lid. I used an old dishwasher capsules container:
- When ready to use, put 2 tablespoons of mix into the detergent spot in your dishwasher.
- Pour white vinegar into the rinsing agent spot. The vinegar helps to prevent residue and spotting.
- Run dishwasher.
Thank you for calling me a domestic goddess. I won't lie, I smiled at that. :) For some reason, the dishwasher detergent has stopped working for us...I know Reno has some CRAZY water, so I'm going to tweak the amounts a bit and see if that helps. Woo! And yeah for cheap detergent!
ReplyDeletewhere is the rinsing spot in the dishwasher. I have a container that encourages you to use two helpings of dw detergent, but I don't have a rinsing spot that I am aware of. . .
ReplyDeleteAnnie - In our dishwasher, it is right next to where we put the detergent. It has a little circle cap that twists off. It also shows how full it is (you shouldn't have to refill it for every wash). I hope this helps but probably not so much unless you happen to have the same dishwasher as us. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I read your "About Me" and just wanted to say that I'm an alto too! Have you heard the song "Alto's Lament?" I posted a video of someone performing it.
how much vinegar do you use
ReplyDeleteI fill up the "rinsing agent" spot...probably a tablespoon or two?
DeleteThis is very effective recipe to make homemade laundry detergent. Thanks for sharing.
